Silver Raven was engaged by leading construction firm BUILT to assist with a complex structural modification project at the Chifley Building in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. As part of a broader redevelopment and reinforcement program, BUILT required the precise removal of degraded foundation sections and column footings to allow for new structural upgrades. Due to the sensitivity of the site—located within a high-rise commercial precinct—BUILT sought a vibration-free demolition method to avoid damage to adjacent structural elements, minimise disruption, and meet strict environmental compliance standards.
Traditional concrete demolition methods, such as jackhammering or mechanical breaking, posed unacceptable risks. These methods introduced excessive noise, dust, and vibration, potentially compromising the stability of nearby foundations and causing disruption in a busy commercial environment. In response, Silver Raven proposed a hydro demolition solution that offered non-invasive, precision-controlled concrete removal without harming embedded rebar or nearby structures.
Using advanced robotic hydro demolition systems—including the Aqua Cutter 410 and 710 units—Silver Raven carried out remote-controlled high-pressure water jetting to selectively remove only the required concrete areas. These systems allowed for safe and efficient operation within confined and restricted-access areas, making them ideal for dense urban construction zones. For detailed work in tight corners and edges, Silver Raven technicians supplemented robotic operations with handheld HPWJ lances.
Environmental compliance was a key priority. To manage wastewater and concrete slurry, Silver Raven deployed a Siltbuster on-site filtration system to capture, filter, and process runoff in real time. This ensured all waste materials, including slurry and particulate-laden water, were treated and disposed of in accordance with EPA regulations and the project’s environmental management plan.
Throughout the operation, Silver Raven adhered to strict safety protocols, including high-pressure safety controls, exclusion zones, and ongoing structural monitoring to protect the integrity of surrounding infrastructure.
The project was completed safely, efficiently, and within schedule. All compromised concrete foundation sections were removed with millimetre precision, preserving rebar and neighbouring structures, and allowing BUILT to proceed with foundation expansion and rebar reinstallation. This project reinforced Silver Raven’s capability to deliver high-precision hydro demolition solutions in challenging urban environments—combining safety, compliance, and performance in one complete package.
