Lavender Street Bridge Sensor Installation Case Study

Silver Raven was engaged as the principal contractor by Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) to install structural health monitoring sensors on the Lavender Street Bridge, part of the Sydney Harbour Bridge approach. These sensors are critical for providing real-time data on the bridge’s structural integrity, tracking stress, strain, and environmental impacts.

The project required meticulous planning due to the complexity of the bridge’s structure, heritage considerations and the need to minimise disruptions to pedestrians and daily traffic. The Silver Raven team managed scaffolding to install sensors inside the bridge as well as traffic control during the night which involved a full road closure for sensors installed underneath the bridge using Elevated Work Platforms.

With Silver Raven’s experience and expertise in executing civil projects, we successfully completed the installation, providing TfNSW with essential data to support proactive maintenance and ensure the longevity of this iconic structure.

Silver Raven seamlessly managed complex, multi-faceted tasks in a high-stakes environment, demonstrating expertise in overseeing every aspect of the project, from coordinating traffic management to operating elevated work platforms (EWPs) for difficult-to-reach areas. This comprehensive project management ensured that all installations were completed on time, efficiently and with minimal disruption to daily bridge operations.

Our ability to balance complex logistical challenges, working within strict time frames, and ensuring the highest quality workmanship using the highest-grade materials underlines Silver Raven’s reputation for ‘Engineering Excellence’.
